Charles River Laboratories plays a key role in the discovery and nonclinical development of pharmaceuticals and our expertise in bioanalysis and biomarker measurement carries through to all stages of clinical development. Developing sensitive and specific biomarker, pharmacokinetic, and immunogenicity assays are required for success and Gyrolab platform has been valuable for the development and validation of the aforementioned assays to support both safe and efficacious therapies.

Since they acquired Gyrolab system, the system has proven itself time and time again, with high throughput, low background, easy method transfer from sponsors, and low intra-operator and inter-operator variation. As researchers at the Bioanalysis Research Department say, “If we have sufficient sensitivity in the assay, we would like to use Gyrolab as the first choice.” The introduction of Gyrolab system into their US lab has enabled them to transfer assays between their facilities in Japan and the USA. They are pleased with the rapid support that Gyros Protein Technologies always provides. Looking into the future, the CRO expects that the demand for biosimilars will increase, demanding higher throughput that they expect to meet using Gyrolab system.

Resolian Bioanalytics UK has used Gyrolab technology for over 15 years, acquiring their first instrument in 2007 and becoming the first CRO to establish a GLP-validated method on the platform. Their Gyrolab capabilities have grown since and they now utilize their 3 validated Gyrolab instruments to support PK analysis for multiple late and early-phase clinical studies, pre-clinical GLP studies and exploratory drug discovery studies.

The immunoassay department at NUVISAN has also appreciated another key advantage of the Gyrolab platform — that being the minimal hands-on time needed to perform an analytical run. Added to that, they have seen that the automated system minimizes intra-/inter-run variations, facilitates the transfer of assays from clients, and provides the high throughput needed to manage large numbers of samples. Dr Uwe Kärcher adds, “At the same time Gyrolab technology is still open and flexible for assay optimization. The Gyrolab system enables us to conserve resources including time and matrix without losing performance. This makes the system unique and a very valuable tool that allows us to work more efficiently.”

ICON’s adoption of Gyrolab xP workstation has been driven by Sponsor requirements. As Michael explains, “We recognize the need to support the programs that our Sponsors outsource on the platforms that are most appropriate for their drug development challenges. Many Sponsors have the Gyrolab system in-house, so we’ve brought multiple systems on-line to meet demands in transferring Gyrolab assays into our GLP laboratory”. The Immunoassay Laboratory currently uses the Gyrolab systems to optimize, validate and run PK, biomarker and ADA assays.

Stacey Gottschall, QPS (Senior Team Lead) explains, “QPS has installed multiple Gyrolab workstations in our global drug development sites across both North America and Europe. We have continued to partner with Gyros Protein Technologies for the past 11 years, installing our first Gyrolab xP workstation in 2010, and the second one in 2018. We were the first CRO to partner with Gyros Protein Technologies and validate Gyrolab for GLP work in 2011. In addition, QPS added two Gyrolab xPlores in 2016 and we keep expanding, adding a Gyrolab xPand in 2020. We have also developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specifically for operation of the Gyrolab machines to ensure consistent results.”
