SPPS tips for success: Designing a synthesis

Peptide-based therapeutics are increasingly being seen as the future for many drug development programs, and these compounds can be found in many clinical therapeutic areas such as cancer vaccines, personalized medicines, and treatments for metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. These ground-breaking drug discoveries usually begin with the solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) of a target sequence. With the increasing chemical complexity of these peptides how can you maximize the likelihood of success when developing a protocol to automate synthesis for a new peptide sequence?

This webinar will cover the main areas of SPPS theory and synthesis design, focusing on first principles such as sequence analysis and synthetic methodology. In addition, topics will include exploring what factors may influence decisions such as resin selection, choice of coupling chemistry, scale of synthesis and coupling protocol. These objectives will be relevant to researchers in all areas of synthetic peptide chemistry and will help form the basis of a sound synthetic approach to practical SPPS, whether you are a new or experienced user, working in either a high-throughput custom synthesis environment or a more research-based setting.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how to design a solid phase peptide synthesis protocol.
  • Learn how to analyze a sequence and create a synthetic methodology based on first principles.
  • Understand which factors influence resin selection, choice of chemistry, scale of synthesis and coupling protocol
