Greener Synthesis and Purification Solutions in the New Era of Peptide Therapeutics
Peptide manufactures have seen massive scale ups in response to the tremendous success of type 2 diabetes and consequent weight-loss drugs in drugs in the pharmaceutical sector.
Unfortunately, to accommodate the market demand, the production of peptide therapeutics is resulting in a heavy environmental burden. Peptide production is inherently hazardous, with
1) the use of toxic solvents, including N,N- dimethylformamide (DMF), which has recently been banned in the EU, and
2) high volumes of toxic waste, with the majority of solvent usage consumed by HPLC purification.
In collaboration with the Papini’s group from University of Florence, we aim to improve the environmental impact of both peptide synthesis and purification, while not compromising on efficiency and purity.
Our latest research poster unveils game-changing innovations:
- Binary solvent mixtures achieving 80% mean peptide purity
- Successful synthesis of complex peptides using eco-friendly methods
- 90% reduction in purification solvent use with PurePep EasyClean technology
