Senior Application Scientist

Gyros Protein Technologies enables bioanalytical solutions that help scientists increase biomolecule performance and productivity in research, drug discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development, and bioprocess applications. Proprietary high performance nanoliter-scale immunoassay platforms, Gyrolab® xPand and Gyrolab xPlore, are used by scientists in leading pharmaceutical, biotech, CRO, and CMO companies for bioanalytical applications such as pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, immunogenicity, and quantitating bioprocess-related impurities.

Gyros Protein Technologies headquarter is located in Uppsala, with a team of approx. 140 highly motivated professionals in Sales, Marketing, R&D, Operations, etc. Since September 2019 Gyros Protein Technologies is part of Mesa Laboratories.


Gyros Protein Technologies, a global company that develops, manufactures, markets and sells a unique microfluidic platform based on CD’s to miniaturize and automate immunoassays, is now searching for two Application Scientists with focus on kit- and assay development.


In the role as Application Scientist, you will be involved in the entire development process, from idea generation and early proof of concept to development, verification and launch of new products. The products include consumables and kits for immunoassays, microfluidic CDs, instruments and software with a focus on assay- and kit development for this particular role. The work takes place in an interdisciplinary area where broad competence and interest in the various functions is an advantage.


The work is conducted in project form and includes collaboration with other functions (such as manufacturing, quality control, marketing and sales) and requires good communication and collaboration skills.


This role will report to Director R&D Gyros Protein Technologies AB. The role is a permanent contract full-time and you will be based at the HQ office in Uppsala.

What you will do:

  • Develop and optimize automated immunoassays in CD format for different types of analysis, sample types and assay formats
  • Propose, plan and drive development of new products and applications with focus on kits and assays
  • Develop project documentation such as plans, requirement, verification and validation documentation
  • Plan and perform verification and validation of instruments, software, kits and applications
  • Establish and develop processes, SOPs and product documentation for manufacturing and QC of kits and consumables
  • Develop marketing and training materials for new products, conduct internal training and participate in conferences
  • Stay up to date in the field and suggest new products
  • Ensure product quality and perform technical support of existing products
  • Act as an interface between application and instrument / hardware
  • Participate in the product development of CD’s, instruments and software


Who you are:

  • Master's degree in engineering in a relevant field, preferably molecular biotechnology, technical biology, chemical engineering or other education in biology / chemistry
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience of hands-on laboratory work
  • Previous experience from product development of kits, reagents and applications
  • Experience from development and optimization of immunoassays
  • Possesses a good biological understanding of immunoassays
  • Ability to work independently and take on a large degree of responsibility and commitment to the task
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral
  • English and Swedish as working language
  • EU working permit
